The Matt Haley Trust

Championing second chances and transformative change

Our vision at the Matt Haley Trust is a world where individuals can transform their lives, second chances are the norm, and tough conversations lead to a more just and compassionate society.

How can we ensure that the support provided to individuals receiving second chances is sustainable and effective in the long term?

Matt Haley was one of Delaware’s most respected culinary ambassadors and philanthropists.

Matt Haley said he has learned empathy for others through the years. As a teenager, he started doing drugs and alcohol. His behavior got him kicked out of 13 schools in 12 years, though he did graduate.

At 30, he was sent to prison following a drug arrest. Cooking was part of his rehabilitation and the culinary arts became his salvation. His cooking talent led to jobs at various restaurants and a management position at a friend’s Rehoboth restaurant. Eventually, he owned eight popular restaurants in the state’s beach resort towns, had a total of 25 operations in at least four states, served on several boards and was a frequent speaker.

Matt Haley Trust lives on.

Upon Matt’s unexpected death, in accordance with the blueprint of Matt’s will, the Matt Haley Trust was formed with the purpose of continuing Matt’s dedication to healing the world. The Matt Haley Trust is focused on its mission within Delaware, Nepal, and Nicaragua — all places that were potent in Matt’s journey of healing and contagious goodness. Per Matt’s direction, the Trust is quarterbacked by his good friend and business partner Steve Himmelfarb. Steve. along with a small cohort of trusted partners. seek to perpetuate Matt’s legacy through a lens of curiosity, innovative problem solving, and kindness.
